At an RSC in August of 2002, three NA rural groups in South Central Texas began discussions of a new NA service area.
These rural groups often felt neglected due to isolation from the large metropolitan service areas. Their trusted servants would drive long distances to attend an area service committee meeting; often losing their voting rights due to “consecutive absence” rules in some area policies.
Discussions continued with road trips rotating between the Never Alone Group in San Marcos, Simplicity Group in New Braunfels and SOS Group in Universal City.
On February 8, 2003 Hill Country Area NA joined the Tejas Bluebonnet Region. The vision that became a reality was to provide services and support that would facilitate the continuation and growth of rural NA meetings in South Central Texas, and Narcotics Anonymous as a whole. Today, our Area Service Committee rotates between the towns and groups it serves. New groups gain voting rights at their first ASC and do not lose those rights. Our ASC utilizes consensus based decision making not Robert’s Rules, and a simple set of ASC Guidelines, and Financial Policy. We work to keep things simple and informal.
The vision that began in 2002 is still alive today!
A dream, vision, and reality…
This page is dedicated to our HCANA predecessors; three passionate individuals and their home-groups who had but a dream. That dream became a vision and with hard work through spiritual principles, that vision became a reality.
To those predecessors who had but a dream,
Thank You!
